Artist research- Daniel Smith
I was inspired by the work of Daniel Smith, not necessarily because of the work that he creates or the meaning behind these images, but mostly because of the feeling that you get when you look at these images. For me the true connection came when looking at the image shown above. Immediately when looking at this image, the first word that came to my mind was, ‘Suicide’. There is still a high percentage of people who commit suicide through jumping off of a bridge, with the figure slowly lessening each year.
Once making this connection I began to generate the thoughts and feelings that this individual could be experiencing whilst on this bridge and this allowed me to really engage in the work that Smith has created. I used this as a basis for what I wanted to achieve within my own work.
