For this project I have decided to base my work more around the part of ‘weird’, in ‘weird and wonderful’. I will be looking at and researching into topics, including, gender identity and the issues that surround this, such as stereotyping, bullying, discrimination etc. As part of carrying out this project I will be required to research into other artists that have done work similar to my own; to gain further knowledge and generate ideas for my work. I will also be required to create a ‘model release document’, this will be used when approaching individuals that I want to photograph and document their thoughts/stories that will be used within my work. What I hope to achieve from carrying out this project is to have a clear understanding of where gender identity comes from and different peoples’ views on aspects that surround gender. For example, especially with children, involving what clothes they should wear, toys they should play with etc because of their gender, and how this can then affect them as they get older and whether this has an impact on individuals as they grow older. I decided to subtitle this project ‘Seeing beauty in everything! Everything is beautiful!’, because I felt that this suited my project perfectly; that no matter what gender you identify as, the way you dress or what you choose to do does not make you less beautiful.
